Welcome to Room 17

Hi, My name is Rachel Bellve and I will be your child’s classroom teacher for 2017, and also the Team Leader for the Tui Team. I’m looking forward to teaching Yr 5-6 and getting to know you and your child.
I’ve put together this page to give you a bit more information about our programme in Room 17 and some of the things we get up to in the Tui Team. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Otherwise, I look forward to meeting you over the coming weeks.

Kind regards,
Mrs Rachel Bellve

It is important that you name all parts of your child’s uniform, including hats and shoes. I cannot stress this enough. Lost property is very easily returned if it is labeled! Please note that hats are compulsory in Terms 1 and 4 and the PE uniform is compulsory for Yr 5-8 students.

Beginning of Term 1

The first few weeks of school will be spent getting to know each other and completing initial testing. Guided Reading groups will be set up as soon as possible and you can expect your child to bring home readers for homework from Week 3. Please ensure your child comes to school each day with their book bag. Unfortunately they will not be allowed to take books home if they don’t have a book bag.

Homework is an important part of our programme at Reremoana. It provides an opportunity for parents to spend quality time talking to their child about what they are learning at school. It also means concepts being taught at school are being reinforced at home, too.

As a general rule, Year 5 and 6 children will bring home one reader each week for Homework. Guided Reading at this level includes an in-depth comprehension focus which means children spend longer on one text.  If your child needs an extra boost, they may bring home books that they have issued from the library. Our class library time will be Tuesday afternoon.

At this level are encouraged to read a wide range of texts for enjoyment. It is expected that Years 4–6: Independent Reading and 20 mins other activities per night (up to 80 mins per week)

Homework will be set on Monday and collected in on Friday. There is an expectation that this Homework will be completed on time and to a high standard. We understand that sometimes this won't be possible due to family commitments and activities throughout the week. Please let us know early on in the week if this is the case so that we can come up with an alternative solution together.

The Reremoana School Homework Policy is available on the school website or via this address: https://goo.gl/izC1jn

BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)

All students in Tui Team are able to participate in the BYOD Programme by bringing a Chromebook to school. All students will have access to a Google Account in order to complete some of their work digitally. You can view the answers to some commonly asked questions about the BYOD programme on our school website, via this link: https://goo.gl/ZYelBH.
On the first day of school, all students will take home a new Chromebook Agreement that you and your child will need to sign and return back to their classroom teacher (hopefully by day 2), before they will be able to use their Chromebook at school.
As with all internet use at Reremoana School, there is a filter that will block children from viewing sites of a potentially harmful nature. Teacher Dashboard is a tool that teachers at Reremoana School use to monitor students’ emails and correspondence in the Google suite so as to limit potential negative behaviour and exposure here. Lessons around cyber safety and digital citizenship will be explicitly taught as part of the curriculum during the first few weeks of school. If you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Mathematics in the Tui Team for 2017

The Tui Team will be joining together for the numeracy part of Mathematics. What stage your child is working at determines which class and which teacher they will go to each term. Throughout the year, your child will have the opportunity to work with different teachers within the Tui Team. Your child will be tracking their achievement on their  “Evidence of Learning” doc (they’ll be able to show you this on their Google Drive later in the term). This type of grouping forms part of our innovative learning model at Reremoana School and was trailed last year in Tui Team. All Tui Team teachers will be planning collaboratively to ensure that teaching is targeted to the specific needs of our students.
